I feel like there isn't much to say about gen 9 at this point. We all know the problem. The games just aren't the center of the brand anymore. And the 3 year dev cycle isn't long enough to make a decent modern pokemon game. Gamefreak and the pokemon company need to find away to Allow the games to switch to a 6 year dev cycle with double the team size. Or gamefreak needs to go back to just making 2.5D pokemon games. With less content in favor of better quality content and visuals.

Ah yes. Game Freak. The company that doesn't understand how to optimize a video game. Also yes, it will sell solely because it's a Pokémon game, no matter how bad of a game it is. In fact, Pokémon's insane popularity is the exact reason why the games have gotten so bad. If a game as low quality as S/V can still sell ludicrously well solely because it's Pokémon, why bother putting any effort into making better games? People are still buying despite the game being bad so clearly Game Freak doesn't need to make good games. The only way to change this is to speak with our wallets and stop buying Pokémon games until Game Freak learns how to make good games, but that'll never actually happen on a scale large enough to matter because it's Pokémon, the biggest multimedia franchise in the world.

To be fair in regards to including smartphones to appeal to the yoof, that dates all the way back to Gold and Silver doesn't it? They gave you a mobile phone in that one, and it was right around the time everyone was obsessed with phones (which never made sense to me since you spent all day talking with your friends at school anyway, and phones didn't do anything other than calls, texts, and Snake). Everyone I knew was indeed asking for a mobile phone for christmas rather than a gameboy.

I genuinely want to know what the main contributing factor was for why ScarVio turned out like this. It's not lack of talent. The game design is great and they had Monolith Software devs on the team. It's not the hardware (necessarily). Zelda and Xenoblade look way better. It must be time and budget. Sure, Pokemon as an IP is profitable, but most of the money comes from the merchandise, which requires new games to come out with new creature designs to plushify. So those games gotta come out quick. And why spend a ton of money making the games when half a ton will do? ScarVio still outsold games like God of War Ragnarok. Might as well compromise the developers' vision to make the shareholders happy. So basically it's Capitalism's fault.

Sad how on the same console, Sonic Forced my Hotdog to Twerk looks ten times better than a Pokémon game.

When nearly every Pokemon battle during the main-story comes down to a quick game of rock-paper-scissors, it's absolutely baffling that it straight-up tells you what you're opponent is going to do before they get a chance to do it. "Nemona is about to thrown down rock, will you chose paper or scissors?"

it’s kind of weird how Superstars says “knuckles has super powers” which once again leads people down the road that everyone but Sonic’s super forms have been retconned away from canon. but Frontiers has Knuckles mention his super form, on Ares island…so obviously it does exist, but superstars (which only came out a year later) once again refuses to say super form when referring to knuckles and other characters…it’s so weird.

Woo I knew he'd break and do one, it's still a modern Pokémon game sadly, far too easy, lacking in polish and unnecessary cutting of corners and lack of innovation on gamefreaks part. That said I enjoyed it far more than most of the other modern ones and a couple of the mons actually made it into my top favourites especially the bread dog I love the bread dog 🐕

I don’t want to defend much from Gen 9 but I don’t really know what else they could put in the open world to find. Pokemon, items, trainers, that’s all there is in normal Pokemon. Hell, they even added collectables that unlock mythical pokemon. It might just be my lack of creativity but I can’t really think of anything else they could put in the world to find. And I had a blast exploring the open world.

To be fair with the cell phone bit at 13:20, phones have been in the pokemon games since Gen II, they just called them Poke-Gear. All they did was start to call them phones. The Arceus phone is still ridiculous though.
